(Much of the following is from wataugaedc.org) Electrical Service New River Light and Power Company Water Quality, Testing & Treatment Water and Sewer Town of Boone only 828-262-4550 The Availability Fee is a one-time fee established to create a capital
fund necessary for the construction of water and sewer projects created
by new demands being placed on the system. Fees are based on life
expectancy of the water and sewer plants, and costs are associated
with replacing and/or expanding plants as demands increase. The fee
can be paid in advance or over a period of three years. Usage is monitored
for three years, and the total amount paid at the end of three years
is based on actual usage by the customer. Fees are the same for residential
and commercial customers. Fees are based on daily consumption estimates
and are charged at $1.50 per gallon/water and $1.75 per gallon/sewer.
Wastewater Treatment Town of Boone only 376 Deck Hill Rd. 828-262-4570 / 201 Casey Lane 828-262-4580 The Boone Wastewater Treatment Facility was recently upgraded and has a sewer capacity of 4.82 million gallons per day, with an available surplus of 1.3 million gallons per day. A sewer system is in place, without a separate storm sewer system. Solid Waste Disposal The Town of Boone handles public solid waste disposal within the city limits. Other residents in the county utilize well-located disposal and container sites and/or contract with Garbage Disposal Services, Inc. 828-264-3689 or County Disposal Company 828-265-0247, as well as other private companies. Gas Companies Seven propane gas companies, all located within the county, serve Watauga County. All companies support residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural users.

Bus transportation connecting Boone and Blowing Rock to cities between Johnson City, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina is now available. Greyhound, Inc., provides the intercity service with a route from Johnson City to Boone, Blowing Rock, Lenoir, Hickory, Lincolnton, Gastonia and Charlotte.
